February 18, 1997 - The lake level dropped about 2' due to a gate inadvertently being left open at the water control structure in the outfall canal.  The strong flow from Brooker Creek refilled the lake in about 4 days.

Fluctuating the water level is actually beneficial to the lake, which may be varied in a controlled manner as part of the Lake Tarpon Management Plan.  This flushing action should help reduce the overabundance of nutrients, which feed the undesirable vegetation.
